Programmes - Community Education

Learning is lifelong - we're most alive when we're learning

Adult and Community Education, often referred to as "night classes", are proof that most people in the Wanaka area realise that education is for the whole of our lives. No matter what our age or circumstances we are always learning new things. As our circumstances change we seize a variety of opportunities to become lifelong learners.

Community Education

Even in a relatively isolated community like Wanaka it is good to know that we can explore a new interest, keep up with technology, learn a new skill or just get out to meet new people and have fun.

The courses offered through the Adult & Community Education programme are as varied as the adult learners who enrol. They are open to anyone over the age of 16 and not a full time secondary student. Students can enrol subject to approval. Courses only run if there is sufficient demand, full refunds are made if courses are cancelled. Generally courses will run for two hours one night each week, for a six or eight week period. There are always exceptions, and some courses suit weekend workshop style better.

Courses are run on the school term schedule, roughly as follows:

Term 1 February - March

Term 2 May - June

Term 3 August - September

Term 4 October - November

Courses offered, schedules and costs are advertised in the Upper Clutha Messenger at the start of each term.

To enrol you must either stop by or mail your enrolment form and payment to the College office prior to the deadline. If you are not notified that the class is either full or cancelled, plan to show up on the first night. For further information, you can ring the College or email the co-ordinator, Jenny Merton on ace@mtaspiring.school.nz

Have fun and never stop learning!
